Goddess Saraswati is the consort of Lord Brahma, one of the Gods in the trinity. Goddess Sarawati is the presiding deity of knowledge, learning and various art forms. She is also known as Vagdevi and is the ruler of speech. In Hindu tradition, before starting any auspicious work, it is customary to offers prayers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati. In Sanskrit sara means “essence and swa is “self”. Hence the essence of the self is known as Saraswati. She is worshipped by children and people who want to acquire knowledge and wisdom.

She is always shown in white clothes which symbolize purity. Two swans are seen to the side of Goddess Saraswati. Swan is supposed to distinguish milk from water. It is known to have the power of discrimination. She preaches her devotees to discriminate between good and bad and lead a pious life. Goddess Saraswati is the daughter of Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva. The name of Saraswati River is mentioned in the Rig veda.
