Crystals and the Vedic tradition
Crystal healing as it is practised today is a modern tradition, not a teaching of the classical Jyotish texts. Some stones do have a classical link: sphatik (clear quartz) is used for malas and yantras, and several crystals are upratna, the substitute stones of a planet, such as amethyst for Shani, citrine for Guru and moonstone for Chandra. We describe each stone by its traditional association and do not make health claims.

Caring for crystals
- Dust them with a soft dry cloth.
- Rinse hard stones such as quartz in clean water; keep soft or porous stones such as selenite and pyrite dry.
- Rest them on a selenite plate or in raw rice overnight if you like to cleanse them.
Frequently asked questions
Are healing crystals part of Vedic astrology?
Mostly not. Crystal healing is a modern practice. Some stones are upratna of a planet, such as amethyst for Shani and citrine for Guru, and those carry a Jyotish link.
Which crystal is good for the home?
Clear quartz and amethyst are popular for living spaces and meditation corners, and pyrite is often kept near a desk or cash counter.
Can selenite be washed?
No. Selenite is soft and dissolves in water, so clean it with a dry cloth only.
What is a crystal pyramid used for?
In Vastu practice a pyramid is placed in a room or zone to support it. A small crystal pyramid is also kept on a desk as a focal point.
How do I choose a crystal?
Choose by your intention first, then by the form that suits where you will keep it. If you want a stone linked to your chart, ask for one of the upratna of your rashi lord.
