Iolite (Neeli)
Sort by:
Iolite (Neeli) is an upratna, a substitute for Neelam, of Shani (Saturn) in Jyotish. This collection lists Pandit.com's natural iolite stones, each as an individual piece by weight, so you choose the exact stone you will receive. Every stone is selected under Pt. Rahul Kaushl.
Iolite in Jyotish
Iolite (Neeli) is worn to strengthen Shani when that planet supports your birth chart, and it is traditionally chosen for discipline and steady work when Neelam is not advised. Because a gemstone strengthens its planet, it is chosen from the birth chart, ideally the lagna, and not from the rashi alone. Iolite is the gentler and more affordable substitute for Neelam. See the Shani remedies for other remedies of Shani.
How iolite is traditionally worn
- Finger: the middle finger.
- Metal: silver or panchdhatu.
- Day: Saturday, in Shukla Paksha, in the morning after bathing.
- Mantra: Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namah, chanted 108 times before wearing.
How to choose an iolite
- Iolite changes colour from violet-blue to pale grey as you turn it; this is natural.
- Fix the weight with your astrologer. A common trade measure is 1 ratti = 0.91 carat.
- A clean stone of moderate weight is preferred over a large stone with heavy inclusions.
- Buy with a lab certificate. For a stone matched to your chart, consult Pt. Rahul Kaushl.
