Ketu in Vedic astrology
The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra describes each graha by the signs it rules, the sign of its exaltation and debilitation, and what it signifies in a chart. A well-placed Ketu supports these areas of life; an afflicted one is strengthened or pacified with the remedies below.
| Graha | Ketu (South node of the Moon) |
|---|---|
| Day | Tuesday |
| Gemstone (ratna) | Cat's Eye (Lehsunia) |
| Rudraksha | 9 mukhi (modern practice) |
| Signifies | Detachment, spirituality, intuition and moksha |
Ketu, the shadow planet
Ketu is the chhaya graha opposite Rahu. It is associated with renunciation and inner insight, and its results depend strongly on the sign and house it occupies.
Remedies for Ketu
- Mantra: Om Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketave Namah, chanted 108 times, ideally on Tuesday.
- Gemstone: Cat's Eye (Lehsunia), worn only after a chart check, since a gemstone strengthens its planet for better or worse.
- Rudraksha: the 9 mukhi rudraksha, linked with Ketu in modern practice.
- Yantra: the Ketu yantra or a Navagraha yantra, installed on Tuesday in Shukla Paksha.
- Daan and conduct: charity and steady conduct on Tuesday are the simplest traditional remedies, and they need no purchase.
Whether Ketu needs strengthening or pacifying depends on your chart. Consult Pt. Rahul Kaushl before choosing a gemstone.
