Moonstone Gemstone

Moonstone is an upratna, a substitute for pearl, of Chandra (the Moon) in Jyotish. This collection lists Pandit.com's natural moonstone stones, each as an individual piece by weight, so you choose the exact stone you will receive. Every stone is selected under Pt. Rahul Kaushl.

Moonstone in Jyotish

Moonstone is worn to strengthen Chandra when that planet supports your birth chart, and it is traditionally chosen for a calm mind and emotional balance. Because a gemstone strengthens its planet, it is chosen from the birth chart, ideally the lagna, and not from the rashi alone. See the Chandra remedies for other remedies of Chandra.

How moonstone is traditionally worn

• Finger: the little finger.
• Metal: silver.
• Day: Monday, in Shukla Paksha, in the morning after bathing.
• Mantra: Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandraya Namah, chanted 108 times before wearing.

How to choose a moonstone

• Good moonstone shows a soft blue or white sheen (adularescence) that moves across the stone.
• Fix the weight with your astrologer. A common trade measure is 1 ratti = 0.91 carat.
• A clean stone of moderate weight is preferred over a large stone with heavy inclusions.
• Buy with a lab certificate. For a stone matched to your chart, consult Pt. Rahul Kaushl.
