Vidya Lakshmi
The consort of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi is the presiding deity of wealth and knowledge. She is worshipped in eight forms like Vidya Lakshmi, Santana Lakshmi, Dhana Lakshmi, Soubhagya Lakshmi, Dhairya Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Adi Lakshmi and Dhanya Lakshmi.
As per the puranas, Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk. Devas and asuras wanted to achieve immortality. They were suggested to obtain nectar or amrita by churning the ocean of milk. Devas and asuras requested Mount Mandhara to be the churning rod and asked serpent Vasuki to be the Churning rope. They pleaded Lord Vishnu to bear Mount Mandhara on his back. Lord Vishnu obliged and he took the form of a tortoise known as kurma and helped devas and asuras. While churning, several celestial objects like Iravata, The mighty elephant, Kalpavruksha, the celestial tree, Goddess Lakshmi, Moon, Lord Dhanvantari, Goddess Jyeshta emerged from the ocean.
Lakshmi Pooja is done specially during the festival of lights, Diwali by all Hindus. On the day of Diwali, in the evening, several oil lamps are lighted and decorated around the house to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Business men start their new account books from the day of Diwali. Crackers are burnt and people celebrate Diwali with much festive vigour.
Thursdays and Fridays are considered auspicious for performing Lakshmi poojas. Most of the Hindus pray to Goddess Lakshmi for seeking peace, wealth and prosperity.
Goddess Lakshmi accompanies Lord Vishnu in all his avataras to eliminate evil and bless the humanity.

2. Lakshmi Kubera Homam: Kubera is considered as the treasurer of Goddess Lakshmi. By worshipping both Lakshmi and Kubera, wealth and financial prosperity can be achieved.
It is an elaborate homam. After the Ganesha Pooja and Kalasha pooja, Navagraha homam and Dasa Dikpalaka homam are performed. 1008 times Lakshmi moola mantra and Kubera moola mantra are recited. It is followed by a homam. This pooja and homa are performed in your name and with your specific sankalpa.
3. Lakshmi Sri Sookta Homam: It is an elaborate pooja which is performed by four pundits. Lakshmi namavali is recited 1008 X 4 times and Sri Sooktam is also recited. A homam for the 1/10th of the japa number is performed. As an offering to the Goddess, a lotus flower dipped in honey is used in the homam. This pooja is advised for overall development and prosperity.
