Agni means flame, it is the first elemental force mentioned in the Rig Veda.
What is Agni ?
In the early times of the vedic age, sacrifices were made to Agni, the fire God. It becomes a symbol of destruction, a precondition to the creation of a new life. In Tantra, it is the divinity presiding over the center of absorption of the cosmos. In rituals sacrifice it is an important offering. It represents the masculine energy, the fire God and is an attribute to Shiva, Durga and the Kali.
