Emerald (Panna) is worn to strengthen Budh when that planet supports your birth chart, and it is traditionally chosen for intellect, speech, business and communication. How to choose an emerald

• Colombian and Zambian emeralds are the best-known sources. Most emeralds are oiled to fill natural fissures, so a certificate should state the treatment.
• Fix the weight with your astrologer. A common trade measure is 1 ratti = 0.91 carat.
• A clean stone of moderate weight is preferred over a large stone with heavy inclusions.
