An 8 mukhi rudraksha has eight natural lines (mukhi) running from the top of the bead to the bottom. In the tradition it is associated with Lord Ganesha, and in Jyotish with Rahu (the north node of the Moon). This collection brings together Pandit.com's 8 mukhi beads from Nepal and Indonesia, each checked under Pt. Rahul Kaushl before dispatch, with the origin stated on every product.
8 mukhi rudraksha in the tradition
The Shiva Purana describes rudraksha from one to fourteen faces and links each to a deity. The 8 mukhi bead belongs to Lord Ganesha. As the bead of Ganesha, the eight mukhi rudraksha is traditionally worn before starting something new. See the Rahu remedies for other remedies of Rahu.
Who chooses an 8 mukhi rudraksha
It is traditionally chosen for:
- removing obstacles
- new beginnings and new ventures
- clarity during Rahu periods
In Jyotish it is chosen when Rahu needs support in the birth chart. It is often paired with a nine mukhi bead to cover both Rahu and Ketu. For a bead matched to your chart, consult Pt. Rahul Kaushl.

How to wear an 8 mukhi rudraksha
- Choose a Monday morning, after bathing.
- Wash the bead in clean water or Ganga jal and place it before an image of Lord Shiva.
- Chant Om Namah Shivaya 108 times, or the beej mantra given on the product page.
- Wear it in a red or black silk thread, a wool thread, or capped in silver or gold, so that it touches the skin.
- Remove it before bathing with soap, and oil it lightly with sandalwood or mustard oil every few months.
How to check that a rudraksha is genuine
- The lines should run from end to end without breaks, and should not look carved.
- An X-ray shows the seed compartments inside the bead; their number matches the number of mukhi.
- Buy with a lab certificate. Floating, sinking and copper-coin tests are not reliable.
