Day 03

Third Narata - Maa Chandraghanta

Maa Chandraghanta in Fiery Form (रौद्र रूप)

Years passed, and Mata Parvati gave birth to Kartikeya, who is also known as Skanda or Murugan. He is the son of Shiva. Since Tarkasur was not stopping anywhere, it was required for the good of the universe to stop him. And as we know, he was given the boon that only the son of Shiva could kill him. So Kartikeya killed Tarkasur.

More years passed, and there was a demon called Jatukasur. He was a demon with a bat-like physique. He was a devotee of Tarkasur, and being a good disciple, he was heartbroken at the killing of Tarkasur and wanted to take his revenge. So he decided to attack the family of Kartikeya and eventually kill Kartikeya. He summoned his entire bat army and attacked Kailash.

Jatukasur attacked Kailash, and the moment he uttered from his mouth — “I will kill the one who killed my master” — something happened inside Mata Parvati. Realizing the threat to her son, she took the form of Maa Chandraghanta, in which she was riding a lion and had ten hands, each of the hands holding something.

Then she killed Jatakasur.

Life-Lessons from Maa Chandraghanta

Lesson 1

It's Okay to Be Both Gentle and Fierce

You know how sometimes you need to be kind and understanding, but other times you have to put your foot down? That's exactly what she represents. The lesson here is that you don't have to be just one thing. You can be a compassionate, gentle person who is also incredibly strong and won't stand for nonsense. It's all about balance.

Lesson 2

Get a Handle on Your Emotions

She rides a lion, which represents raw power, instinct, and aggression. Think of that lion as your own strong emotions – like anger, pride, or even passion. By riding it, she's showing us that she's in complete control. The big takeaway is to master our own 'inner lion.' Instead of letting your emotions run the show, learn to channel that energy into something positive and constructive.

Lesson 3

Stay Alert and Aware

You'll notice her third eye is always open, which means she’s always paying attention. This is a great reminder for us to be mindful. Be aware of what's going on around you—the good and the bad. But just as importantly, be aware of what’s going on inside you. Are you feeling stressed? Is your ego getting in the way? It's about not just sleepwalking through life.

Lesson 4

Be the Person Others Can Count On

One of her hands is always in a pose that basically says, "Don't worry." It's a gesture of fearlessness. She's telling her followers, "I've got your back." We can take that to heart in two ways. First, find the courage to face your own fears. Second, try to be that person for others—the friend, sibling, or parent that people know they can turn to when they're scared. Be someone's safe space.

Lesson 5

You're a Better Multitasker Than You Think

Ever feel like you're juggling a million things? Well, she has ten arms for a reason! She’s the ultimate multitasker, with a different tool for every situation. This is a big inspiration for our busy lives. It shows us we're capable of handling different roles—at work, at home, for our health—and that we have the resourcefulness within us to figure out which "tool" or skill to use for any challenge.
